Cedar Park Nursery

The nursery wanted to create an outside classroom that would have the flexibility to also serve as a play area, a place for story telling and for pinicing.

The area is bounded by eight inch square waney oak beams and filled with wood chippings. The layout is informal with seats and tables made using logs as well as refectory style tables and benches made from oak. The ergonomics are designed for the pre-school children  and with a view to safety all corners and edges are rolled over.

All the timber used was sourced locally for trees felled during the course of tree surgery work which would otherwise have gone for logs or to landfill so meets any sustainability and green criteria one would apply.

The play area has proved very popular with the children and is in use every day. To upkeep is minimal since oak requires no special treatment and is extremely durable and weather resistant.
